The All New Realme GT 6: Review

The Realme GT 6 stands as a paramount contender among sub-Rs 45,000 smartphones. It boasts an expansive and luminous LTPO AMOLED display, a robust Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 processor, a voluminous battery with rapid charging capabilities, and an admirable camera ensemble. The device leaves little to be desired.

Realme GT 6

Pros:

  • Imposing performance
  • Expansive and vivid display
  • Superior battery life with swift charging
  • Excellent construction quality
  • Stellar camera system

Cons:

  • Speakers, albeit loud, are devoid of bass
  • Realme UI includes some pre-installed bloatware

Upon evaluating the Realme GT 6T recently, I found it impressive for its price. Now, the Realme GT 6, enhanced with gamma-radiation exposure, piques further interest. Priced at Rs 40,999 for the base model, it appears to be the optimal choice in the sub-Rs 45,000 range. Yet, does it truly live up to its promise, or are there significant compromises?

Having spent approximately two weeks thoroughly testing the phone, here is my comprehensive review of the Realme GT 6. Let us delve in!

Realme GT 6 Design and Construction

The Realme GT 6 mirrors its subdued counterpart, the 6T, in appearance and color options—Fluid Silver and Razor Green. Despite preferring the Green variant, I have the Silver. The GT 6, however, surpasses the 6T in build quality, featuring a glass back instead of plastic, resulting in a more premium feel and a slight increase in weight. The frame remains plastic with a matte finish, contributing to a grippy 8.6mm thickness.

Nevertheless, the glass back is a magnet for fingerprints, requiring frequent cleaning. The minimalistic design, apart from the branding at the bottom left, is a welcome change from the GT Neo 3’s aesthetic. The silver tone, though, around the cameras isn’t visually appealing but doubles as a makeshift mirror. The camera placement causes the phone to wobble when placed on a flat surface.

Ergonomically, the volume and power buttons are well-positioned for easy one-handed use despite the phone's size.

Display Brilliance

The GT 6’s 6.78-inch LTPO AMOLED curved display is a highlight, offering up to 6000 nits of brightness, although our Lux Meter tests capped it at 2,700 nits. Nonetheless, the display remains exceedingly bright and outshines competitors like the iQOO 12 and OnePlus 12R. HDR content on YouTube appeared exceptional, with deep blacks and vibrant colors, enhanced by Dolby Vision, HDR10+, and a 100% DCI-P3 color gamut.

Protection comes in the form of Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2, a relief for the clumsy. Complementing the display are Dolby Atmos-tuned stereo speakers, which, while loud, lack bass, affecting music playback quality but sufficing for movies.

Software Experience

Realme UI, a relatively clean skin compared to others, does include some bloatware like FinShell Pay and dual Game Centers. Despite this, the user experience remains seamless, with fluid animations and excellent haptics enhancing the overall interaction. Features like Smart Removal and Smart Loop, though not perfect, add utility.

Performance

The Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 ensures formidable performance. In daily use, the device handles multiple background apps with ease, showcasing excellent RAM management. Benchmark results reflect this prowess:

  • AnTuTu Benchmark V10.2.6: 1550440
  • AnTuTu Benchmark V3.0.6: 708113
  • Geekbench: Single-Core: 1674, Multi-Core: 4510

Gaming on the GT 6 is a delight, with settings for popular games like CoD Mobile, Warzone Mobile, Genshin Impact, and BGMI allowing high graphics and smooth framerates. Thermal management is impressive, with temperatures rarely exceeding 42 degrees even after extended gaming sessions.

Camera Capabilities

The triple camera setup, led by a 50MP Sony LYT-808 sensor, delivers outstanding daytime performance with excellent dynamic range, natural colors, and fine details. The 50MP telephoto sensor also performs admirably. However, the 8MP ultra-wide sensor falls short in detail, especially in 2024 standards.

Night photography continues the trend of strong performance with the primary and telephoto sensors, though the ultra-wide struggles with noise and detail. Portraits of human subjects are particularly impressive, with cinematic depth and accurate edge detection.

Selfies from the 32MP front camera are consistently good, even in low light, with natural skin tones and solid edge detection. Video capabilities are robust, with all three rear sensors supporting 4K recording, and the primary and telephoto sensors capable of 4K at 60FPS.

Battery and Charging

The 5,500mAh battery offers remarkable endurance, with an SoT of around 8.5 to 9.5 hours and up to two days of normal use. The 120W fast charging is exceptional, fully charging the battery in about 30-35 minutes and reaching 50% in just 10 minutes.

Verdict: A Superior Choice Under Rs 45,000?

At Rs 40,999, the Realme GT 6 is an exemplary all-rounder in its segment. Compared to competitors like the POCO F6, Xiaomi 14 Civi, and Moto Edge 50 Ultra, it offers superior performance, build quality, and battery life. While the IQOO Neo9 Pro may surpass it in raw performance, the GT 6 excels in camera capabilities.

Overall, with minimal drawbacks, the Realme GT 6 is a highly recommended device in the sub-Rs 45,000 price range.
